Aqueduct Plaza
Location: Bronx, NY
Client: NYC Parks
Aqueduct Plaza is located in the University Heights neighborhood of the Bronx along Aqueduct Walk, a linear park that sits above the Old Croton Aqueduct. The project involved the narrowing of a dangerous intersection at Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard and W 188th Street to improve pedestrian safety and expand the park plaza.
With several cultural institutions adjacent to the site, including Bronx Community College and the Francis Martin Library, the transformation of an expanse of asphalt roadway to a green park and community gathering space will have a significant impact on the neighborhood. The removal of paving and addition of trees and planting will also serve to reduce runoff to city sewer system.
