FIRE ESCAPE BENCH
Location: MANHATTAN, NY
Client: cOOPER-HEWITT DESIGN MUSEUM
Nancy Owens’ sculptural steel bench, exhibited at “The Outdoor Chair” show at the Cooper-Hewitt Museum of Design, references the fire escape as a space for cool respite on steamy summer evenings. Physically and conceptually, the metal frame of the bench encloses the sitting areas and at the same time defines the garden space, forming a transparent boundary between the two.
